RESPITE
CARE provides family support
on an hourly, overnight, or multiple-day basis in the family's home.
RESPITALITY
serves families facing a crisis situation, families
requesting assistance for a special occasion weekend, or families waiting
for Respite Care. It provides an opportunity for parents to enjoy a get-away
weekend at a hotel while a respite worker cares for the child with a disability
and his/her siblings.
Family
Friends Program
is
a unique opportunity that connects individuals with disabilities to a caring
volunteer offering companionship and support. Orientation and training is
provided to all volunteers who have an interest in being matched to an
eligible family and/or assisting at any UCP Respite Event.
RESPITE
& RECREATION CLUB offers
a fun-filled evening for children with a disability and their siblings ages
birth to 18.
Who
provides Respite Care?
Respite Care Providers who have training, experience,
or an interest in working with persons with disabilities are screened by Respite
staff, and referred to families according to skill, needs, and time availability.
Providers are trained by the family in the care needs of the person with a
disability. Providers are available primarily during evening and weekends
to come into the family home and provide the caregiver some time away. Parents
are encouraged to use their own resources to find respite providers that will
best meet the needs of their family.
What
is the cost for Respite Care?
Respite fees vary, determined on a sliding scale based
on monthly family income and number of family members. Respite care is available
to all eligible individuals, regardless of financial status.
How
can a family sign up for UCP's Respite Care program?
Families interested in the program should call the
UCP office to arrange a home visit by a team member.
