Employment Services

The Employment Services program (ES) of United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin assists adults with developmental disabilities (cerebral palsy, cognitive disabilities, autism, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, blindness, Down Syndrome, physical disabilities and visual impairment) achieve more independent lives by gaining and retaining competitive employment.
 

Employment Services develops individualized jobs in partnership with businesses in the community for persons with significant disabilities. United Cerebral Palsy believes that all persons, regardless of disability, have the right to work in the community for a competitive wage with the same dignity and respect as other people. In some situations, accommodations and/or assistive technology will be utilized to enhance success on the job. Trained staff provide support for both the employee and the employer, by constantly adapting services to meet the needs of the people being served.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Employer Supports - All services are free to employers. These services include prescreening, adaptive technology assistance, ADA information, job matching and job facilitation and education. Benefits consist of higher employee retention rates qualified and reliable employees.

Job Development
- Works directly with area employers to identify and match employer needs with employee interests, skills and abilities.

Career Development Classes - Furnishes job applicants with basic abilities for job seeking endeavors.

Job Facilitation - Provides the employee with specific, on-the-job training, works with the employer to ensure that all aspects of the job are performed satisfactorily, and develops supports at the work site.

On-going Support - Provides long-term support for employees on the job and responds to any changes or problems that may occur over time on the job.

Job Keeping Club - Supports the individual in developing and maintaining social and personal interaction skills and offers opportunity for problem solving issues related to employment.

Business Advisory Council (BAC)- Increases the successful development of employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through actively engaging members of the business community throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The Business Advisory Council (BAC) is a monthly forum where council members representing their business or organization serve as a business-to-business liaison for UCP. The Staff at United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin also work within the community as a resource on the American with Disabilities Act and other issues that affect the lives of persons with disabilities.
